Reviewing how last month went, despite the many off days and “dirty” Carnivore part, the weight loss was fantastic! From the beginning, I have said that my goal is not to lose all my excess weight in a year. In fact, I want to experience weight loss stalls and a few plateaus in order to allow my skin and body to adjust.
Having been overweight since I was a toddler, an obese body is all I have known, and it’s all my physiology has known. I’ve seen others report about their body dysphoria, excessive loose skin, stress about weight stalls and weight gains, etc. For me, I’ve decided to embrace the weight stalls as a time to dial-in my diet, and the same if I experience a weight gain.
To combat any body dysphoria, I’d much rather lose my weight over a couple years versus months (as some Carnivores have achieved). For the excess skin, I want slow weight loss , I will try lymphatic drainage massages and will eventually add on muscle-toning workouts. I know getting rid of excess loose skin won’t happen overnight, but I’m not into surgery. Based on Kelly Hogan and others’ testimonies about weight loss, over the years skin will gradually tighten up. I’ve spent over 40 years this size, so I know it will take years for my skin to recover.
All that being said, let’s discuss why I’m switching from Carnivore to Ketovore for April. I’m taking my diet, or change of eating, on a month by month basis. Maybe even week by week, or day by day. For the food addict I was/am, it can be meal by meal that I have to negotiate.
Based on my mother’s desire for more variety, and my excessive dirty and off meals, we will try Ketovore. That would bring more veggies for me, and my mother will also have fruit. She will be following a more “whole foods” diet, and I know she will food-cheat when going out with friends.
The main thing my mother kept wanting during meals was salads and just something extra for the meat. Certain meals stand alone perfectly on Carnivore, like any breakfast and any steak. For me, the pork or chicken option could use a bit more moisture and deliciousness. We are eating pork, turkey and chicken as a more affordable option, versus steak.
Homemade keto desserts have also been requested by my mother, and she prefers the keto crust for pizza. So those are also reasons for the switch to Ketovore. I’m sure people would say that it’s not super clean like an elimination diet, therefore this way of eating doesn’t count. But I’m going to focus on my level of cravings and any weight lost. If I have crazy cravings, this way of eating isn’t working for me. If I gain weight, this way of eating isn’t for me. If my cravings are manageable and I stay the same weight, or lose weight, then fabulous!
So with that, I wish you the best Holy Week with this upcoming Good Friday and Easter, where we celebrate, with gratitude, the amazing sacrificial love that Jesus showed us on the cross. Thank you, Jesus, for your love. God bless you and yours.
